A handheld device designed for transmitting voices over a distance to facilitate conversation. Older devices were attached to a cord and connected to a wall transmission network. Modern devices are cordless.
Before mobile phones were affordable, people used phones connected to a wall with a wire. These phones were not very common in small communities.
