About Jakaltek

Jakaltek also known as Jacalteco or Popti', is a Mayan language spoken in the Jacaltenango municipality in the department of Huehuetenango in Guatemala, with an estimate of 54,237 speakers. It is also spoken in the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico and parts of the US.

The Jakaltek community developed a unique linguistic that continues to resonate through generations. As many other Mayan languages Jakaltek has faced many challenges as this world continues to evolve, yet its flame has not been extinguished. By passing down the language the Jakaltek community ensures the language remains relevant in today鈥檚 world and preserves its heritage.
